Decarbonising Shipping: A Panel Driving Real Change

At the Hello Tomorrow Global Summit (March 13-14, 2025) in Paris, deep tech pioneers, entrepreneurs, and investors gathered to push the boundaries of science and innovation. Among them was shipping, a sector often seen as slow to change but now standing at the forefront of transformation. 

Our Managing Director, Stylianos Papageorgiou, took the stage to discuss the urgency and opportunity of decarbonising shipping. Joining a distinguished panel alongside Hélène Loncin (GTT – Gaztransport & Technigaz) and Duncan Turner (SOSV / HAX), and moderated by Anna Heim (TechCrunch), the conversation made one thing clear: the maritime industry’s path to a cleaner future is not just necessary—it’s investable. 

Key takeaways from the panel: 

  • No silver bullet. There is no single solution to decarbonising shipping. The future will be shaped by a combination of efficiency measures, digitalisation, alternative fuels, and vessel retrofits. 
  • Infrastructure needs to accelerate. Ports and supply chains must evolve rapidly to support the adoption of cleaner energy solutions. Without this, scalable change remains out of reach. 
  • Collaboration is critical. Transforming the industry requires alignment among shipowners, start-ups, regulators, and financial backers. Silos will only slow progress.
