lomarlabs becomes a founding member of WAVE Maritime Cluster

lomarlabs has joined the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN), Alpha Marine Consulting and C-Job Naval Architectsas a founding member of WAVE, the Worldwide Alliance for Vessel Decarbonization & Energy Transition.

The new maritime innovation cluster was launched in Hamburg on 1 September alongside SMM 2026. It has been created to address one of the persistent challenges facing maritime innovation: how to help promising decarbonisation technologies move beyond early technical progress and towards credible integration and validation in real operating environments.

WAVE will focus on technologies at Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 3–7. These solutions may have demonstrated clear potential, but often still require vessel-specific engineering, access to operational insight, structured testing and evidence that responds to the practical expectations of shipowners.

lomarlabs will bring the shipowner perspective, access to operational environments and its experience supporting technology start-ups working to advance maritime innovation. This contribution will help WAVE shape its activities around genuine fleet needs and ensure that promising solutions are considered against the realities of vessel operations.

The founding group combines this operational perspective with marine engineering expertise from Alpha Marine Consulting, research and validation capabilities from MARIN, and vessel design and naval architecture expertise from C-Job. Together, the organisations will support appropriate routes for the integration and validation of selected technologies; WAVE will not design or develop the technologies itself.

Membership applications are now open. Organisations are invited to tell WAVE who they are and what they would contribute. Applications are reviewed by the WAVE Steering Committee to preserve a balanced, non-competing partner structure, with applicants contacted regarding fit and the most appropriate membership tier.
