SMM 2024: Innovation in maritime amidst the unmistakable presence of climate change

SMM 2024

My experience at SMM 2024* was both inspiring and eye-opening.

The event, while showcasing the latest in maritime innovation, was marked by unseasonably high temperatures—a stark reminder of the very challenge we, as an industry, must confront: climate change.

This year’s SMM highlighted the urgency of developing and adopting technologies that combat environmental impact. The heat during the event was a tangible example of how global climate patterns are shifting.

Reinforcing the need for the maritime industry to play a critical role in reducing emissions and promoting sustainability.

At lomarlabs, we are more committed than ever to being part of the solution by working with innovative startups that are developing deep-tech to better vessel performance, reduce fuel consumption, and minimise the shipping industry’s carbon footprint.

The heightened discussions around climate change during SMM 2024 underscored the importance of accelerating these efforts.

Overall, the SMM 2024 event was a success, providing us with invaluable connections and insights.

The conversations we had, emphasised that innovation and sustainability must go hand-in-hand.

As we look ahead, lomarlabs remains focused on driving meaningful change in maritime technology—because the future of our planet depends on it.
