Driving Decarbonisation Together: lomarlabs Leads Commercialisation Work in Seabound Consortium

Real change in shipping doesn’t happen in silos. It takes collaboration between bold founders, experienced operators, and committed partners.

A Consortium to Redefine Port Operations

Our portfolio company Seabound has secured £1.1 million through the UK Government’s Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition (CMDC6) to pioneer the world’s first fully integrated carbon and emissions capture system at the Port of Southampton.

In partnership with STAX Engineering and Associated British Ports, this project will capture CO₂ alongside harmful pollutants like SO₂ and NO directly from ships while docked—without retrofits or costly infrastructure changes.

From Pilot Success to Port Deployment

Seabound’s journey reflects the lomarlabs model in action. Their first onboard carbon capture trials were carried out with Lomar Shipping, achieving ~80% CO₂ capture efficiency on a container vessel. That proof unlocked today’s scale-up: moving from shipboard pilots to port-wide systems, supported by visionary partners and a strong commercial plan.

As our Managing Director, Stylianos Papageorgiou, explains:

“By integrating carbon and emissions capture in a scalable, barge-based system, we’re unlocking a practical path to cleaner port operations enabling any ship to call ports where stringent emission requirements apply without needing a retrofit to comply. At lomarlabs, we’re proud to support Seabound in translating vision into deployment.”

By integrating carbon and emissions capture in a scalable, barge-based system, we’re unlocking a practical path to cleaner port operations without retrofitting ships.

Leading the Commercial Exploitation Plan

Within this consortium, lomarlabs is leading Work Package 6 on exploitation and dissemination planning. That means we are responsible for shaping the commercial exploitation plan—ensuring this breakthrough moves beyond Southampton and scales to ports worldwide.

This is where our strength lies: connecting pioneering technology with business models, partners, and industry pathways that accelerate adoption and drive long-term impact.

More Than an Investor

We don’t just invest—we embed. We provide startups with access to vessels, engineers, commercial teams, and maritime infrastructure. We catalyse partnerships, cut through fragmentation, and accelerate the path from lab to sea.

Seabound’s CMDC6 award is proof of what happens when bold founders and experienced operators come together in a consortium: innovation moves from prototype to deployment—fast.

From Consortium to Global Impact

At lomarlabs, our role in this consortium isn’t only about today’s project. It’s about building a replicable model for tomorrow—where decarbonisation solutions move from pilot to port to global scale. Because breakthroughs don’t belong on paper. They belong in ports, on vessels, and across oceans.
